Check your tolerance level

For as advanced a people as we claim to be in this day and age, there seems to be a lot of hate flowing through our collective veins.

For any of you who claim to be tolerant but have used some version of the following:  “If you -insert your disagreement of choice here- then please un-friend me now”, you might want to re-insert the dipstick into your humanity engine and check your tolerance level.  At the very least you might be suffering from a severely misplaced sense of superiority.  I’ve learned to scroll past things (see also:  snooze / unfollow) I have no desire to explore.  You should learn to do the same.  If you disagree with something I’ve said or done, and you find it too difficult to swallow the *I-might-have-a-different-opinion-than-you* pill, you know where to click.  Other than that I'll thin out my own herd.

Do those “COEXIST” stickers I see everywhere mean anything or are they just base platitudes?  The definition of coexisting is: v.  (of nations or peoples) exist in mutual tolerance despite different ideologies or interests.  I’m not seeing a lot of coexisting.  Check your tolerance level.

I recently saw posts of people who claim to be tolerant (and whom I thought less hypocritical but they proudly proved me wrong) praising the destruction of a statue at Brigham Young University.  Whether or not you like the school or agree with its policies, this is the definition of intolerance – n.  unwillingness to accept views, beliefs, or behavior that differ from one's own.  Check your tolerance level.

To demonstrate how far afield this has gone, consider the recent destruction of a statue of an elk in downtown Portland.  Yes, I said a statue of an elk – It was donated by former mayor David P. Thompson back in 1900 to commemorate the elk herds that once populated the region.  Do extinct elk herds represent the last bastion of white supremacy in Oregon?

What I say next is not meant to garner any comments or reactions, it simply is what it is.  More than one fb group I belong to is not living up to my definition of tolerance so I’m considering leaving the cesspool of humanity that is social media, at least until the climate calms down.  We're currently living somewhere on the blurry border between the Sovereign State of Intolerance and the People's Republic of Lunacy.  I learned the hard way to never offer an opinion so at the very least I will be reducing my exposure to it.
